Mount the Key Solenoid Rail
Atthispoint,therailhas solenoid assembly pairscorresponding toacvekeysateitherendofeach
aconseconandtherailhasbeenpreviouslycuttolength.Thepianoisonitsside;alloftheelec‐
tronics,mounnghardwareandtrapworkareinplace
andfunconing.
Since thepianois resngon itsle side,you caninstallthe keysolenoid raileasily byresng the
bass‐most (that is, the lowest) poron of the rail on the lowest end of the lowest slot and then
bringingthetreble‐most
partofthesolenoidrailintothehigherslots.Theexternalpartsoftherail
assemblywilltakethebruntoftheweightofthekeysolenoidrailandsparethemorefragileinternalstructures.You
canuseaheavy‐dutyscrewdriverinsertedbetweenthebass‐mostaspectofthe
lowestslotandthelowestpartofthe
railassemblyasasimplewedge‐levertofine‐tunetherail's precisealignmentwithintheslot‐system.Lookinsidethe
keyboardcompartmenttoobservethealignmentofthesolenoidplungersal ignmentwiththeirrespecvekey‐tails.If
thesearenot
sasfactory,youwillhave toremovethekeysolenoidrailassemblyandplaceitbackontheworkbench
infrontofthekeyframe‐with‐keystocorrectanymisalignment.
Once youare sasfiedwith theseadjustmentsand the rail is properlyaligned within the keybed slots, take
a spring‐
loadedcenterpunchorasharpawlandcarefullymarkthecentersofthefourcornerbrackets,inthelargerofthetwo
holesineachbracket.
Next,fastenthefouralignmentscrewswiththelargewashers.Thiswillallowyoutomovethesolenoidrail1/4"in
all
direconsforfinealignment.
NOTE:The solenoid rail can be installed easily and more accurately when the piano is on its legs and the acon is in
place. However, an assistant may be required to hold the rail while it is being fastened to the keybed for this step.
Inthecaseofunevenkeytails,alostmoonadjustmentcanbemadeforeachindividualkey.Eachsolenoidhasa5/8"
nyloncapattheboomofthesolenoid.Withthe5/8"socketwrenchturnthenylon
capclockwisetoraisetheplunger
porcounterclockwisetolowertheplungerp.

Thereare5NoteDriverBoards,2AluminumExtrusionsand5 BlackRibbonCables[30”x1,14”x1&4”x3]inthekit.
Youwillslidethedriverboardsintothegroovesoftheextrusions andthenmounttheextrusionstothekeybed.Before
mounng,you
willwanttofindlocaonsforthetwoextrusionssothatallofthecableswillreach.
1] Connectthe30”ribboncablefromPMIIDriverPortAtotheINPUTendofthefirstdriverboard,bassortreble.
2] Connecttheotherboardswiththecables
provided.The14”cableisusedtoconnectbetweenthetwoextrusions.
Each16‐notedriverboardhas16pairsofheaderpins,oneheaderpairforeverynote.Startwiththelowestkeysole‐
noidplugandplugitonto thelowest(thatis,thelemost)
headerpair.Thenextkeysolenoidplugshouldbetheop‐
positewirecoloranditgoesontothenexthigherheaderpair.Connuethisprocessforall16pair‐posionsoneach
board(Note:ifthereisasinglesolenoidatabreak,theremaybeawire
colorchange.).
Atthispoint,allboardshavebeenmountedandconnectedtotheirrespecvekeysolenoid.Also,allelectroniccompo‐
nents,solenoidrail,andtrapworkhavebeenmountedtothepiano.
